It is very sad indeed. I was thinking this when it was announced, but didn’t work out the numbers as you have.
I’d love to be able to ditch my car and use public transport but it’s mostly awful – it’s ok in cities – Sheffield and Nottingham’s tram network is great and I use them when I visit either city because I don’t like driving and parking in the centres and they’re really convenient. The Trains are ok, but that expensive, most of the time using a car is cheaper. The train has become a luxury option really.
Driving isn’t fun any more because there is so much on the roads – it’s a chore – I’d much rather be sat on a train or a bus, but I know that a lot of my journies are either prohibitively long or impossible.
I wonder if a Downing Street petition to match the London cash with the same amount for public transport in the rest of the country would meet with much success?
