- One thing that’s fascinated me for a while is the idea of an RSS-only blog. This would be a system where the content was available only by RSS; there’d be no formatted website, just the RSS feed as content delivery mechanism.
- The advantages to a system like this are compelling. Firstly, it’s a system which recognises that many people will read a blog via RSS without actually clicking through to the site – so why have a site at all? An RSS-only blog puts the actual layout and appearance of the posts into the hands of their rss reader which massively reduces the bandwidth requirements onto your servers as there’s no fancy layouts or graphics to worry about. That also means there’s less to fiddle with. The content is – literally – everything.
