It takes a programmers sense of humor to consider that being funny :p

My website has started acting funny…
Why are these error being displayed?
(PS I get the basics of what its trying to tell me, but not sure how to get round it)
Warning: Unknown(): open(/tmp/sess_4108741e2c30a387ae023cc30a635cdc, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in Unknown on line 0

It’s the lines that start
- Warning: Unknown(): open(tmp….
that are the problem. The rest is just complaining that it can’t send the HTML errors because those errors have already sent them. Silly, I know
It looks like the webserver can’t write to the tempotary (/tmp) directory any more, so can’t store the session information. Get in touch with the admins for the server and ask them if they’ve changed the permissions without telling you.
Otherwise, you’ll need to change where the session info is stored. You’ll need to change session.save_path to somewhere other than /tmp.
Hope that helps.
ps – What do you think of the new-look http://www.greywulf.cf? Your login and blogspace should still work, btw.

Just thinking, but would htadmin have anything to do with it???
I check it, but there doesn’t seem to be anything relating to th “/tmp” folder.
– The Creator 2007-01-11 00:35 UTC
Nope. htadmin has to go with creating passwords to restrict access through a .htpasswd file. That’s got nothing to do with it
– GreyWulf 2007-01-11 00:47 UTC
Well, looks like a support call, coz I can’t edit my php.ini I don’t think.
The phpinfo reports that everything is in check tho, can’t understand whats happened.

Oh by the way,
the new greywulf::net is looking pretty cool.
I like the changable themes too…
Are you having a VB section on there??? ;o)
It’s a good job I’m better at VB than this PHP lark!!!
I’d be pretty screwed otherwise…
BTW, do you know of any user friendly Java SDKs, currently looking at the Java SDK from SUN, but by, gawd its harder than a teenager looking in the girls shower room…
I just fancy something thats easy, and has a better GUI.
Was thinking about writing in Java rather than VB so its easier to migrate. Or at least I would think so, I havent managed to get anything started…
Teach me Master Obi…

I might drop in the occasional VB tutorial if I find something of interest.
If you’re looking for something that’s VB-like, I’d suggest going with Mono. It’s darned cool and (as it uses the C# .NET framework) cross-platform too. C# is one of the best things to come out of Microsoft in a long time. Come to think about it, it’s probably the only good thing to come out of Microsoft for a long time
If you take a look at the some of the sample code on the site, you’ll see that it’s got a lot of code structure similarities to VB and java, but it’s much more readable, memory efficient and downright hackable than either.
There’s even a number of Gui toolkits out there (of which GtkSharp is probably the best) to it’s fairly easy to create your own gui-driven app.
Mono has it’s own IDE/SDK too in the form of MonoDevelop.
I’ll hunt out a set of resources and write a tutorial for Mono later this week. In the meantime, there’s no shortage of tutorials at http://www.mono-project.com/
If you’d like to take a look at a sample webapp, peek at fireblog.
Hope that helps!
