Wow, did you roll a 96 on the Review Criticals Table? I think I will take another look at Gatecrasher (Fudge) or Dark Space (Rolemaster) before buying a d20 supplement. Or I’ll write a Spelljamming M20 supplement that fits in a paragraph. Or a sentence. Actually, I might just do it right here. Ok. Here it is: Special magic items enable ships to fly. There.

You missed out the Giant Space Hamsters. Must have Giant Space Hamsters
Dark Space is a terrific supplement. Oddly, I have it under my bed, RIGHT NOW. Scary stuff. Any setting that mixes Lovecraftian horror with big spaceships always gets my vote. I mean, what else is there, after that?!
Thankfully, there are much better d20 sci-fi settings/supplements. Dragonstar isn’t bad, and d20 Traveller does an adequate job of combining Traveller and d20 without compromising either.
My personal favourite is Blood and Space which combines hard sci-fi with d20 Modern in a way that actually works.
It’s good to see so much quality out there, especially considering the “official” supplement is so weak.

If you want to take a look at d20 Future for yourself to form your own opinions, the (almost complete) text is available to read online for free, along with the complete rules for d20 Modern itself and Urban Arcana. You can also download a zipfile containing all the files.
This is an excellent resource, and means there’s no reason not to run a d20 Modern game over Christmas
