Madonna and Child
This wonderful statue stands by the side entrance at Lincoln Cathedral. I’m sure there’s a term for as side entrance to a cathedral. Don’t sweat it; it’s probably just Latin for “side entrance”. But hey, everything sounds fancy in Latin, eh?
I adore statues like this. It was created entirely by hand, a sculptor’s hand guiding a chisel to create something solid, permanent. It is a product of hammer blows and sharp edges, something beautiful borne out of violence.
Ironically, it’s statues like this that prove to me that God doesn’t exist. Either that, or all pigeons are atheists. Why else would I have to spend an hour photoshopping birdcrap off Jesus’ head?
