Just who do the Right like anyway?
I normally reserve my political ranting for over at Partisan:HomePage, but this is something that I’ve been wanting to ask for a long time.
I read a lot of blogs daily, and the ones from the Right wing are by far the funniest. At least, they would be if they were satire, but they’re not.
The way that I see it, the US Conservative Christian Right don’t like:
- The left (50%-ish of their own country, depending on who’s counting)
- Any county starting with the letter “I”.
- Unmarried mothers
- The unemployed
- The poor
- Anyone who accepts that evolution is a valid theory
- Anyone from Mexico
- Anyone foreign sounding
That pretty much leaves the US Conservative Christian Right only liking themselves, and their mothers (assuming they are not unmarried, of course).
This Mad Magazine skit has never been more true than it is in this age:
At least in the 1950s it was only the communists that were the victims of this hatred. Now it’s everyone not like us. I’d be inclined to change the wording from “Super-Patriot” to “Right winger” though. Being patriotic for your own country is a good thing, but not when it comes at the cost of hating everyone else.
Tell me again why they are in power in the US because I really can’t work it out……….
