The wordcount module adds a wordcount to an edit page. It uses javascript to continually update the count so there’s no server-side load at all.

As a base I used Richard Livsey’s Textarea Tools, though I’ve stripped the code to its barest minimum.

Download the module here: http://wiki.greywulf.cf/modules/wordcount.txt. Save as wordcount.pl and place in your modules directory. No additional files are required.

Enjoy.

I’ve created this module for two reasons – firstly, I’ll using OddMuse on my local machine for my contribution to NaNo, and knowing the word count is a Good Thing. Secondly, it’s about time I got my ass into gear and actually contributed something to OddMuse :) This is the first of many.
